Following its successful domestic premiere in China, the new Jupiter II Series has now been available in all international markets since the start of 2013. This two-platen technology has been completely revised, its design has been made more compact, and it has been specially optimized for large/long molded parts and quick mold change. At the heart of these basic innovations is the increased power of the new drives. The servo-hydraulic drive technology of the best-selling Mars machine is now standard in the Jupiter II Series. Available clamping forces range from 12,000 to 66,000 kN. In 2014, the model’s portfolio is to be expanded to include smaller clamping forces and wide-platen versions.

“Of all the series, the Jupiter II has definitely taken the biggest step in terms of development,” explains Mr. Fu Nanhong, Head of Development at Haitian International Ltd. “It is significantly more stable, the rapid friction free mold movements are very convincing, it has energy-saving drives, and it runs quietly.  And the selection of up to 6 injection sizes per clamp-ing unit offers great flexibility.”

First Jupiter II in Belgium

The feedback from the new Jupiter II Series is remarkable; the first contracts had come in long before the official sales launch. By the middle of 2013, more than 200 units had already been ordered, and many of them already delivered. The first Jupiter II machine in Europe was installed in Belgium: a JUII18500 machine for plastic panels manufactured by the Paneltim Company in Lichtervelde.

This family-run business has developed an innovative sandwich panel made from plastic and has been producing it since 2010 on two Mars machines with 16000 kN and 33000 kN, integrated into a fully-automatic production cell. New objectives were planned for 2013: “When we saw the two-platen design of the new generation of Jupiter machines, we knew that it would be the best machine for our large panels. It’s very economical in energy consumption, technologically robust, and also unbelievably space-saving”, says Ludo Deltour, the owner of Paneltim. “We were also very impressed by the technical support and individual support from Haitian Europe. We’re still completely new to the injection-molding sector of course, and we feel that we are very well looked after by Haitian.”

Mr. Deltour identified flexibility coupled with speed as a further reason for their decision in favor of the Jupiter II. “We always try to be ahead of the competition and we’re working at a fast pace on other possible applications.” Customer products and requirements are very varied, he says, and so he must keep modifying his panels constantly or fine-tune them. “Fast mold changes on the Jupiter II helps a lot in this regard,” says Philippe Porret, Technical Director at Haitian Europe. The new locking system is precise and simple to operate. At the same time, flexible height adjustment of the mold and high rigidity of the platen when using heavy mold are guaranteed. “The re-launch of the Jupiter really has really paid off. Not only does it now meet all European requirements, it has also become much more comfortable to handle in daily operation in many respects, for example in terms of visibility and the ability to access the individual components, as well as regards maintenance,” Porret mentions.

Wide-platen versions and smaller clamping forces in 2014

Next year, Haitian will significantly expand the service range of the Jupiter II Series. The new clamping force sizes of 5,500, 7,500, 9,500 kN and the wide-platen versions for clamping forces of 9,500, 12,000 and 16,000 kN will face the requirements of many processors, enabling them to achieve greater production efficiency in other ranges of application.

At the K Show, Haitian is exhibiting as representative of the whole series a small JU5500II/2950 machine.  Equipped with a space-saving high-performance robot by Sepro, it will produce a 730 g motor cover made of PA6-35 GF with 2 cavities in 46 seconds.
